Today Watana was the lucky winner of the "Christmas in July" blocks.
Sharon & her granddaughter Jada show their blocks from our last workshop using coloring for a technique.
Terry shows us our next workshop on paper piecing. I failed to get pictures of the "New York Beauty" blocks we will be making.
Lawana shows her sampler quilt.
Jo Anne shows her chenille bag from an earlier workshop.
Watana shows us this quilt that she made.
Jada machine quilted this cute quilt.
This week I recieved 5 antique quilts from a lady that was cleaning out her closet and just wanted to get rid of them. Notice the top piece of fabric that was probably sewn on to keep it from getting dirty. My favorite is this one with many baskets.
Here is one with lemoyne stars. It has no batting. It looks like the top section was cut off of the side and sewn back on to the top. There is a seam all the way through the quilt there.
I don't think this one is quite as old as some of the fabrics and batting seem to have polyester in them.
Here's a nine patch that I believe someone tried to fix up.
And this last one is an array of different blocks.
Most of them have batting that has wadded up between the quilting.
Now, what shall I do with them?
After leaving Adam's we headed to Colorado going through the northeast corner of New Mexico.
We stopped at Royal Gorge where we enjoyed the world's highest suspension bridge. We got there early and got $10 off of regular $23 tickets. Great deal!!!
The Arkansas River & a railroad ran along the bottom of the canyon.
This is the tram that took us to the bottom.
Looking up at the bridge 1053 feet above us, you can see the little tiny cable car going over the canyon. We rode that cable car and it held 25 to 30 people. It about made you woozy.
Paul and I along with Amy, Dustin, & Craig enjoyed a trip to the west coast recently. Our first stop was in TX to see my nephew Adam. He has a dairy farm that he's operating. Here he is outside his bunk house.
Inside he has just enough room for a bed, stove, fridge, sink, a few chairs and love seat, small desk with computer, and a table/island. On the other end of the room is the bathroom with a curtain for privacy. The set up is just right for him.
Adam showed us around the farm and how things work. He has a hired man that helps too. Here we are in the milking parlor.
Cows waiting to be milked.
Mixing feed.
A ride with Adam.
Feeding the cows.
Adam's girlfriend Meagan was visiting him for a few days.
She helped him feed the calves along with a lot of other hard work.
We took them out for supper at the Mt. Vernon Cafe.
Yesterday I enjoyed having Alma and Loridana spend the day with me. Loridana is from Romania and is visiting Leland & Alma. She was their Romanian teacher and friend and helped them a lot when they were in Romania. Alma thought they would enjoy making a quilt so at 7:00 a.m. I quick cut out large blocks and they came around 9:30 and helped sew them up.
Next came tying the top, batting, & back together. Loridana thought this was hard work. She enjoyed the sewing part much more.
By 6:30 we finished putting the last stitches into the binding. I was impressed with the nice fine hand stitches that she made.
Loridana was quite happy with her quilt and wrapped it around herself, ready to take with her.
Our Possum Town Quilters met again last Saturday. Here's Annette with the patriotic blocks she won.
C.C. with her sampler blocks. She made the chenille in a workshop given earlier.
Lawana with her chenille bag and the a scrappy quilt she made using circles.
Sharon with her memory quilt.
And Sharon again with her Japanese Geisha.
I just finished piecing this quilt top for our annual school auction. It's called Moonlit Garden Trellis. I think it's beautiful. The picture just doesn't do it justice.
Before you all think I designed it, I'll tell you up front that I bought the fabric & pattern in a kit from Marianne Elizabeth. http://www.marianneelizabeth.com/ She designed the fabric & the pattern. www.xanga.com/PollythePatchworker & I got to meet her in Houston last fall where we first saw the quilt. She so graciously let us take her picture in her booth.
