  • Quilt Blocks

I couldn’t sleep early this morning so I got up at 4:30 and made my BOM quilt blocks. This “Crown of Thorns” is for Watana.

And this “Ribbon Star” is for Sharon.

  • Possum Town Quilters

I just got back from our monthly PTQ meeting. Here are CC’s star blocks on a navy background.

    f5

Here are Linda’s “Granny’s Star” blocks. Notice the block I made on the bottom row with the wrong background fabric.

    f6

Marjorie showed this pieced and appliqued quilt that she finished.

    f3

Judy showed this “Turning Twenty” quilt she made for a grandson.

    f2

She also made this “Log Cabin with Stars” for another grandson.

  • Following Directions

Here’s my 2nd try and how it’s supposed to be.

    granny's star

Will I ever learn? We were to make this “Granny’s Star” quilt block using 1930′s prints or any small prints or tone on tones in cheerful colors with a cream background fabric that was supplied. And what did I do but forget to use the supplied cream background.

    Here’s my first attempt.

  • Comfort Knotting

Yesterday some of our “sewing circle” ladies got together and put comforter tops, batting, & backs in frames for our annual Magnolia Comforter Knotting.

    t8

We got 15 comforters ready to tie or knot for the evening get together when everyone was invited to help participate from the oldest to the youngest, male & female. I worked with this group of people and listened to their chatter about using vice grips to pull the needle through and lining up the rows when there was no grid to follow.

    t6

The children enjoyed playing together and being pushed around in the gym.

    t4

These young girls were efficient at the task before them.

    t2

Jason gave Katie Jo a ride on the ripstick.

    t1

Elmina & Anna Mae chose to hand quilt on a signature quilt.

    t5

We were glad for this chef’s help in the kitchen. That was much easier than threading a needle.

    t3

It was getting late and time to go home but this group stayed until the job was done.

  • Quilt Blocks of the Month

CC chose to have her blocks made with a navy background and any star with more than four points made in pastels. This is my block I made for her called “Festival Star” by Sharyn Craig.

And here’s my “Granny’s Star” block for Linda that she chose to be made with small prints or tone on tones with a cream background.

  • Pine Belt Quilter’s Show & Tell

Recently I was privileged to be with the Pine Belt Quilters in Hattiesburg for their monthly meeting. This is a big industrious group of quilters and I enjoyed their “show & tell” so much.

  • Name that Quilt

I finished piecing this top today and now I need a name for it.

    e1

Then I wanted to do like Melody Johnson and use my scraps up to make another quilt. I added the red scraps for accent. Now, I think that using hand dyed fabric would be much easier, but I wanted to use what I had. Some how it’s just not working.

    e2

So, I laid out the blocks in a mostly horizontal fashion.

    e3

That’s better, but it still needs much help. Does anyone have any suggestions?
