  • Youth & Games

Last Sunday evening we had the youth here to play games. Blokus was a real hit.

    IMG_7284

They also enjoyed Scotland Yard, or "Mr. X" as we call it. The guy with the sunglasses is "Mr. X" and all the other players try to find him.

    IMG_7285

And more Blockus. They had 2 games going.

    IMG_7286

Some of them just enjoyed visiting.

    IMG_7288

We served meat, cheese & crackers, popcorn and soda pop floats.

    IMG_7294

Then we divided the group into small groups of 3 persons each and I gave each group a couple hands full of Lego Blocks that they were to build something with.

    IMG_7299

This group ended up with a grist mill that would shoot missles.

    IMG_7297

This group made a mobile vegetable stand that had it's own private jet and launching pad.

This turned out to be the Tower of Babel with a catapult on the bottom to get astronauts to the top.

    This was a monkey cage.

    IMG_7311

I thought this was pretty cold; but this is a creamation plant with a truck to haul the ashes away.

    IMG_7318

I thought this one was cute; a dude skiing behind a boat that's being pulled down the road.

  • Ben Graber Family

I am so tickled to get this picture of Paul's immediate family.

    IMG_7400

Last evening we celebrated Paul's dad's birthday by meeting at Red Lobster.

    IMG_7353

We had an enjoyable drive to Meridian packed into a van.

  • Teaching High School

Last Thursday and Friday I substituted for our high school teacher. I sure enjoyed interacting with the students. It was interesting to hear their thoughts and comments on different subjects even though some of the material was way over my head like, buying bonds

    IMG_7004

    and WWII history.

    IMG_7114

Friday was "hot lunch" day for the school children; so I got to enjoy that too.

    Friends, Hannah & Ashley.

Aaron and Brent strike a pose.

    IMG_7012

The students sure enjoyed break time and playing softball.

    IMG_7025

Home runs always brought a lot of yelling and cheering.

    IMG_7033

Here I am learning how to keep score the "official" way.

    IMG_7036

Brent enjoyed taking shots with my camera from up on top of the sliding board.

  • Here are some of the projects I worked on at our sewing retreat in Virginia. I finished up my "Star Tricks" wall hanging that I had started when Barbara came down here to teach the class. I call my quilt "Carribbean Spin."

    IMG_6872

I also finished my sampler for the Fall Gathering of MQA that our PTQ is hosting. I call it "Salsa."

    IMG_6865

Then I made this small quilt for a challenge. My niece Claire Bleu came up with this name, "After the Picnic - Mustard, Ketchup, & 'Aunts'." The 'Aunts' is pronounced 'ants' and represents me and my sisters as we were all together there sewing. And the little tiny quilt I made from those scraps just to try out the quilting thread and make sure it would work OK on the first quilt. Mother came up with this name for it, "Mustard, Ketchup, & Black Beans."

    IMG_6867

Then I also started this "String" quilt for charity. I call it "Oh Susanna." Some other good names that were suggested were "American Square Dance" or "Patriotic Square Dance."

  • Last Friday evening we had our annual comfort knotting at the school gym. We knotted 16 of the 23 tops they had prepared.

After the quilts were taken up we enjoyed finger foods. Quinten and Evie made deep fat fried onion rings that were delicious.

Great Grandpa Levi Lee enjoyed a little time with Kirby.

  • Hole in a Hole Quilt

I recently made this quilt for a challenge called "Finding Fifteen" for Quilt Fest in Pigeon Forge, TN. Fifteen what? Hole in a hole? Hole in a square? Square in a square. Whatever. They must be complete. Can you find 15 of them?

  • Printing on Fabric

Some of you have ask how I print pictures on fabric. I just iron my fabric to freezer paper, cut it to 8 1/2 X 11 size and stick it in the printer. Here is a link of a more detailed explanation. http://www.instructables.com/id/Inkjet-Printing-on-Fabric/

I'm starting to use "Retayne" to stop the bleeding but I'm not sure just how good that will work. I guess I should buy some "Bubble Jet Set" but just haven't got around to getting any yet.

  • Print & Quilt on Fabric

I've been trying to print on fabric. Here is a picture of Wilda & Mary Beery's house just outside of Dayton, VA.

    IMG_6729

I changed it to "Colored Pencil" effect on the computer.

    Copy of IMG_6729

Then I printed it on fabric and quilted it.
