  • Auction

On Tuesday of this week we traveled to Virginia to attend an auction of some of Father & Mother’s things. Since they moved back into the home place at my sister Sheila & Sanfords they had some things that they just didn’t need any more. We were all glad to get a little bit of history & memories from home.

    Something for everyone.

    Auction9

    Pretty glass for the ladies!

    Auction8

Quite a few men and boys were glad to get part of Father’s blow torch collection.

    Auction10

    An antique coverlet.

    Auction2

Father & Mother enjoyed watching and sharing memories about some of the items.

    Auction7

Some of the grandchildren took turns being the clerk.

    Auction1

    Tallying up the totals.

    Auction3

    Packing the treasures.

    Auction4

    Loading up and tying down!

    Auction5

One last find in the dumpster!

    Auction6

It was such a fun day with no squabbling and bickering. I was so thankful for the fellowship, laughter, and sharing.

  • Mr. Fixit Man

I’m so glad Paul can fix just about anything. Since my warranty to my 170 Bernina was expired we decided it was cheaper just to buy the part and Paul would fix it himself. However, we never dreamed the part, just a cable was all we needed to make the knee-lift run the pressure foot, would be $75.00

    Paul & Bernina

It’s back in working order now and purring like a kitten.

  • Mariner’s Compass — M’liss Rae Hawley

I had a fun 2 days with quilting friends taking a class with M’liss Rae Hawley.

    mrh8

She has a real gift for quilting and shared so many helpful tips with us. I especially liked her help on color and value in helping me place my fabrics. It turned out so much better than I had originally planned.

    mrh9

Here are some of the ladies that also took the class and their beautiful compasses.

  • Fabric & Trip

Here’s my palette of fabric for a class with M’liss Rae Hawley for Monday & Tuesday.

    IMG_9852

And here is some more fabric that was given to me. Coleen & I got to enjoy thrift shopping in Seneca, SC recently. There are 8 or 10 thrift stores in that little town; so while Glen & Paul had a meeting with the SLM accountant, Coleen & I went for treasure finds. Actually, Coleen brought this fabric along from some lady in their community that was trying to find a good home for it. I was just so glad to be the reciepient. Won’t it make a lot of nice quilts and comforters!!!!

  • Sewing Circle

Our monthly sewing circle is one of my favorite days of the month. Here the ladies are working on a quilt for our annual School Benefit Auction.

Thelma is finishing up a baby quilt for a layette for Wes & Hiedi and their new baby Jackie.

Evie & Marie are deciding where to place the knots to tie this comforter.

Krista is cutting out a parachute.

These young girls are sewing ropes onto the parachutes.

Gabriel, the only young boy that came for the day, is writing Spanish words on the parachutes while Diane watches longingly.

COLOMBIA PARACHUTE PATTERN: Want to help VOM distribute Bibles to terrorists living in violent areas of Colombia? You can with this actual-size parachute pattern included in this year’s IDOP Church Resource Kit. Using the pattern and instructions enclosed, your family or church group can make parachutes VOM will use to deliver Bibles and shortwave radios with Christian broadcasts into key areas of Colombia.

This basket quilt is the result of what Ms Hazel Misso started and Louise and some others finished up.

  • Romania

We visited Pastor Raul & Ana near Slatina, Romania. They served us a nice lunch and shared about the many needs of the people in southern Romania. The area is more poor than central Romania and there is a lot of occult activity in the area.

    Romania2

We also stopped at a home for girls that SLM had part in helping get it started.

    Romania4

    Romania3

Adi and Ariana invited us for supper one evening. Adi helps SLM and is a wonderful host, guide, and friend.

    Romania5

These young people have Bible School with the village children every week.

    Romania6

    Romania8

After the singing, Bible lesson and memorization of verses they played a game like “Musical Chairs” only when the music stopped you had to stand on the newspaper.

  • Germany

We continued our boat ride up the Rhine River to St. Goar where we got a train back down to Rudesheimer.

    IMG_8455

Javonne, my niece, was our tour guide.

    IMG_8464

Then we took a ferry to Bingen

    IMG_8483

and drove back up river to Bacharach.

    IMG_8488

We wound our way through the town until we came to the narrow road leading us up the hollow to Steeg.

    IMG_8494

There we found the Huthwol (Heatwole) house from which our ancesters came.

    IMG_8513

Abover the doorway is the date 1905 and J. Hutwohl.

    IMG_8501

On the way back down the hill we saw this wonderful setting with a bench. We tried it out and when we leaned back the slats on the back kept on going backwards throwing our feet up in the air. The bench was in dire need of repair.

    IMG_8519 resized 25%

We also visited the graveyard where some of our ancesters lie dormant until the resurrection.

    IMG_8531 resized 25%

We drove back down the narrow streets and browsed at some shop windows. The stores were closed so I guess my souviners will be snapshots of what I’d have liked to buy. This shop had drawings of some of the notable buildings around town.

    IMG_8547 resized 25%

And this shop had carvings for sale.

    IMG_8548 resized 25%

We ate supper at this restraunt. The pork, German fried potatoes and apple strudle were delicious.

    IMG_8558 resized 25%

And then it was time to board the ferry and go back to Javonne’s apartment.

  • Yo-yos

Here’s something different to look at until I get my next post ready. I made this “quilt block,” if you want to call it that, for our next month’s drawing for Possum Town Quilter’s.
