  • North Wind Quilt

I’ve finally finished this scrappy quilt and I think I’ll call it
“The North Wind Doth Blow …”
    Remember that little poem?
The North wind doth blow and we shall have snow,
And what will poor robin do then, poor thing?
He’ll sit in a barn and keep himself warm
and hide his head under his wing, poor thing.

North Wind Doth Blow & We Shall have Snow

Back in 2008 I took a “North Wind” class with Dorinda Evans. Here’s my post back then of our class.

  • Magnolia’s 50th Anniversary — Part 3

It was fun again to sing with the Magnolia Melodies. We used to get together every week to practice singing. And now it brought back good memories of days gone by. Click on the side link of “A Lovely Rose” to hear one of the songs we sang.

The next 2 pictures are part of the youth group from the 1960s.

  • Hostetlers Visit

My sister Emily came for a visit today with her son Aaron & Aimee.

    3a

Emily wanted to sew all day long and brought along enough projects to keep her busy. This John Deere fleece throw is for her husband, Perry.

    3b

She brought along a bunch of “Jelly Rolls” that she found for a bargain price and started making blocks for a quilt. And then she graciously gave some “Jelly Rolls” to me too.

    3d

She helped Aimee make this John Deere throw for their new baby.

    3c

I finished up this little picture of Sally and got her bound.

  • Magnolia’s 50th Anniversary

Last weekend we celebrated our church’s 50th anniversary. Way back then they met in this old Salem school building. That was before I came to Mississippi.

Jewel remembers laying on the platform there where they had a mattress or blanket to lay the sleeping babies and waking up from her nap and people were looking at her.

  • Autumn Jumble

Mother gave me a “cake roll” as a hostess gift. I was delighted and thought I could make a quick quilt, but I had no pattern and not much of a plan. I first cut the strips lengthwise and got 2 1/2″ strips. Then I started to make “log cabins” with no rhyme or reason in mind. Bad idea! After getting the blocks together it looked awful!

    Autumn 2

So, I took each block and sliced it both vertically and horizonally and got 4 blocks from 1 block and laid them out. A little better but still needs improvement!

    Autumn 1

So, I took each of those blocks and sliced them both vertically and horizonally (not necessarily in the center) ending up with 272 blocks that I sewed back into 5 1/4 inches square. The end result is “Autumn Jumble” and I am happy with that! I had saved some of the darker strips from the “cake roll” for the border and that worked fine.

  • Leona & Quilts

Rick & Leona were our guests this past weekend.

    r4

She enjoys quilts just like me. She made this one with fabric she had on hand.

    r2

This one is for one of her grandchildren.

    r1

And she brought these blocks along and I helped her sew them together into a top. She wants to add a few borders yet.

  • February BOMs at PTQs

For our monthly quilt meeting in Columbus we made these blocks for Annette. She chose a brown & turquoise color theme.

And Mary Ann chose a blue & yellow color theme.

    February Show & Tell

Brenda showed her quilt that’s been a long time in the making.

Mary Ann showed her scraped “Tossed 9-Patch” quilt.

This is one of the small quilts we made using our Victorian Crazy Patched blocks.

  • Wedding Bells

for Travis and Paul’s niece, Melinda.

And that’s been 2 weeks ago, already.
