  • Mini Sewing Retreat

I was so blessed to have family here for a week of sewing and fellowship. At one time we had 7 sewing machines in my sewing room with small walkways to squeeze through. It was so fun and I enjoyed it so much.

Here’s June making beautiful triple feather stitches on her luscious velvet. Polly is working on the 2 braided quilts that are in the background.

Barbara did machine quilting on these Dresden Plates that are made from triangles.

    t5

She also quilted this overlaping stars quilt.
    t2

Jolene sewed Log Cabin blocks together for her masterpiece quilt that is sure to be an heirloom.
    t8

She also worked on a UFO that she started years ago of a lattice quilt with grapes that are to be appliqued to the lattice.
    t7

Here are her snippings from the grapes.
    t6

And then she started and finished this small Square in a Square top that could pass for looking like the Pineapple block.
    t3

Polly spent her time sewing triangles for a Shenandoah Star quilt that was designed by Barbara.

  • MS Spinning Pinwheels Class

Barbara taught her “Spinning Pinwheels” class to this group of ladies yesterday. Their cheery dispositions spilled out to all and we each had a fun day.

Polly went shopping with sister June and niece Jolene while Barbara and I had class. She hit a gold mind and then shared her treasures with us.

I made lunch for the ladies and then finished up my “Spinning Pinwheels.” tonight.

  • Pine Belt Quilt Show

Polly & Barbara joined me last weekend for the Pinebelt Quilt Show in Hattiesburg. We got to set up a display and enjoyed seeing all the lovely quilts in the show.

    s7

I was so please to meet the judge, Kathy Ward and I really like this small quilt she made.

    s4

Dorinda Evans won ‘Best of Show’ in the large catagory. Her remarkable quilt makes me want to use my scraps to make one like it.

    s5

This is one of my entries, ‘Ezekiel Saw the Wheel.” I was delighted and honored, and yet felt unworthy to have recieved 3 ribbons for my quilt.

    s6

Another highlight was meeting Freda from Tennessee. She saw my “Pineapple Rose and Buds” quilt a couple years ago and wrote to me for permission to copy it in minature form. I was delighted to see her little quilt “Pineapple Rose.”

    s2

It was so special to visit with her and her husband, knowing they drove 600 miles to see me and my quilt.

A couple weeks ago I enjoyed going to the Needle Chasers Quilt Show. Mrs. Jean hosted me and exhibited wonderful Southern hospitality to me.

    Xanga8

Here is a sampling of the wonderful work these ladies do. Nelda Sopha made this “French Braid” quilt.

    Xanga6

Dorthy Daily made this intricate quilt using Erma Gail Hatcher’s pattern.

    Xanga1

Norma Grissom made this stunning quilt that is hand quilted.

    Xanga5

Mrs. Jean took me across the street to see thousands of aprons.

    Xanga7

And I enjoyed supper with these ladies. I think the server was glad to be recognized too!

  • Polly’s Quilts

Since I have some of PollythePatchworker’s quilts in my possession right now, I decided to enjoy them by displaying them around the house.

You see, Polly & Barbara & I are to tell about our quilts at the Pine Belt Quilt Show in Hattiesburg, MS this weekend.

This is her “Farmer’s Delight” that she drafted the pattern for paper piecing. She added the swags and applique and chose plums and greens for her colors.

    IMG_6353

She puchased this “Farmer’s Delight” at the Ralph/Vera Heatwole sale that Grandmother made using scraps.

    IMG_6355

I’m also enjoying her “Dazzling Dresden Doodle.” Can you imagine the work that went into this quilt?

    IMG_6358

And then I also like her square in a square velvet comfort. It’s beautiful!

    IMG_6357

Someone asked me what I took for “Show & Tell” at our recent PTQ meeting. Well, this was the one I chose. And I told them how Polly is making a velvet comforter for each of her grandchildren for their wedding.
