Farmer's Delight Quilt

I gave our balcony a new look this evening.

Farmer's Delight

You see, my sister Polly forgot and left her heirloom Farmer's Delight quilt that Grandmother Vera made. I thought I just had to use it while I had the chance. Click on over to Polly's site to see what a good time we had while they were here.

The red and white Farmer's Delight I made and call "Family Circle." I was inspired to make this quilt to be exhibited along with other Farmer's Delight quilts at the Virginia Quilt Museum. My grandmother, Vera Heatwole, has made 15 bed quilts using this pattern. This inspired 2 of my sisters and a niece to each make their own Farmer's Delight quilts. Then the exhibit was planned and I didn't want to be left out!!!

I purchased the dark black, mauve, and purple quilt at a recent auction. It was made in the 1970's.

Oh Julia you don't know how RELIEVED I am seeing that quilt of Grandmothers. I called Barbara all in distress wondering if I had left it in her van. I thought oh no, what if I left it back at the church where the meeting was and someone tossed it out thinking it was an old blanket.
It looks lovely hung over the balcony! Do enjoy it till it makes its way back here to Delaware.
This evening I had 12 around my supper table. Jeremy, Cheryl, Max were in. I told Ethans to come and also Mom Yoder and Nelson and Rose. Nelson is in for Mussel loader season. The menu was Baby Back Ribs, mashed potatoes and salad. Mom brought her wonderful choc. sheet cake.

Hi! Stopped by for a visit after I saw your comment on Gram53 about the Mennonite Cookbook! We received one for a wedding gift - that was 40 years ago now for us - 40 precious years. I enjoyed visiting your site as it is a very precious thing to me to see prayer veils on here....and even more, what we call a plain suit. That is how we dress. I don't wear the cape dress...couldn't quite tell if you do or not. Thank You for holding the standard high in your life! Are you a sister to Coleen? After seeing some of the pictures - especially packed in the pack seat of the car with quilts :) I thought you might be, but did not see it in writing. We have met on xanga and once in a while leave a note for each other. Thanks for allowing me to visit! Blessings

Those quilts make a lovely display. I know you are tickled to have Grandmother's quilt there for a while. (Just don't let Clyde sleep on it!!! :) )

Beautiful, beautiful. I still wish I'd managed to buy one of Grandmother's quilts, but since I didn't, maybe (maybe, maybe) I can make one someday. I love seeing all your creativity. Quilting is such a lovely art!

What a fun week you girls had.  It all I can do to keep from being jealous.  By the way, I really, really like Coleen's African and Safari suggestions.  Those names really are a great take-off on the colors and the quilt even has a desert cactus look to it.

Wow, and double WOW! Those quilts are both beautiful! All those tiny triangles, pieced into a circle! I would never take on such a challenging project, but how neat that you made one, too...and I love your take on the name. You have a tremendous quilting heritage, and how nice that you and your sisters embrace it and will pass it on to the next generations.

Thank you for your message! I think it would be a treat if everyone made up a little ditty about Polly's spider and posted it to her Xanga!

I met Polly through someone else's Xanga a couple of years ago and asked Polly if we could be friends. I am in awe of the quilting and pictures and her lovely family. My grandmother, my mother to a less extent and my sister were/are the quilters in our family. My sister has a small quilt design company in WA state so she goes to markets and displays in the Western US. It is such a treat when she makes me a gift of her handiwork!

Nice meeting you, may I come back and see your quilts and family?

Peace (in Alabama)
