Romania

We visited Pastor Raul & Ana near Slatina, Romania. They served us a nice lunch and shared about the many needs of the people in southern Romania. The area is more poor than central Romania and there is a lot of occult activity in the area.

Romania2

We also stopped at a home for girls that SLM had part in helping get it started.

Romania4

Romania3

Adi and Ariana invited us for supper one evening. Adi helps SLM and is a wonderful host, guide, and friend.

Romania5

These young people have Bible School with the village children every week.

Romania8

After the singing, Bible lesson and memorization of verses they played a game like "Musical Chairs" only when the music stopped you had to stand on the newspaper.

Germany

We continued our boat ride up the Rhine River to St. Goar where we got a train back down to Rudesheimer.

Javonne, my niece, was our tour guide.

Then we took a ferry to Bingen

and drove back up river to Bacharach.

IMG_8488

We wound our way through the town until we came to the narrow road leading us up the hollow to Steeg.

IMG_8494

There we found the Huthwol (Heatwole) house from which our ancesters came.

IMG_8513

Abover the doorway is the date 1905 and J. Hutwohl.

On the way back down the hill we saw this wonderful setting with a bench. We tried it out and when we leaned back the slats on the back kept on going backwards throwing our feet up in the air. The bench was in dire need of repair.

We also visited the graveyard where some of our ancesters lie dormant until the resurrection.

We drove back down the narrow streets and browsed at some shop windows. The stores were closed so I guess my souviners will be snapshots of what I'd have liked to buy. This shop had drawings of some of the notable buildings around town.

And this shop had carvings for sale.

We ate supper at this restraunt. The pork, German fried potatoes and apple strudle were delicious.

And then it was time to board the ferry and go back to Javonne's apartment.

Yo-yos

Here's something different to look at until I get my next post ready. I made this "quilt block," if you want to call it that, for our next month's drawing for Possum Town Quilter's.

Visit with Javonne at Frankfurt, Germany

On our way to Romania recently we stopped at Frankfurt for 2 nights and stayed with my niece, Javonne.

IMG_8349

She showed us around this unique building not far from where she stays.

IMG_8306

Notice the hole going into the building.

And then there were so many escalators going from here to there.

IMG_8307

We walked in the rain and enjoyed looking at other buildings in the square.

IMG_8321

The next day we took a boat ride up the Rhine River and enjoyed looking at the castles, vineyards, and landscape along the way.

This is the little port at Bachrach where the Heatwole's hailed from.
